Dev Anand

The ever green Hindi film actor ‘Dev Anand’ is one the versatile actor who stole the heart of his fans of all around the world. He was all rounder and made his contribution in the art of acting, writing, producing and directing movies.

Early Life and Career

Dev Anand was born on 26th September 1923 in Gurdaspur now in Pakistan. He was the third son of their parents. After completing BA degree in English literature from the Government College, Lahore, he moved to Mumbai to become an actor. However, he began his career in the military censor's office at Churchgate and then later joined as a clerk in an accountancy firm.

Filmy Career Boost Up

Dev Anand first movie was Hum Ek Hain. But, he met with success through the movie, Ziddi. Gradually, his career began to grow through the 1950’s with movies like Insaniyat and Kala Pani. He received the best actor award for his film Kala Pani. Guide was his movie for which he will be remembered for ages. This is the movie in which he enacted to go through several emotions like humor, romance, greed and ultimately salvation. After the success in all these films, Dev Anand turned into a producer in the year 1949 launching his own production house with the name Navketan. He was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Bhushan by the Indian Government.

Political Activity

There are few people who know about Dev Anand that he has also been politically active. Leading a group of film personalities, he campaigned against the internal emergency entailed by the then prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi. He also structured a party with the name ‘’National Party of India’’ which dispersed later on.

Death

Dev Anand took last breath on 4th of December 2011 in his room at Washington Mayfair Hotel in London. His funeral was organized at a small chapel in London after which his coffer was taken to the Putney Vale Crematorium in South West London for cremation. His ashes were immersed in the Godavari River, India
